Invicta Grammar School has been established in the county town for well over 60 years. Though its history has been one of change, especially in terms of its name and the type of education it provides, it is now firmly established as one of Kent's premier grammar schools.

School Bags

As many students at Invicta are unsure of what bags are acceptable to create a
business-like image, we felt it was time to set clear guidelines and provide
examples for us as students and our parents. A group of form representatives
from Year 11 was set up to form the “Bag Working Party”. We held our first
meeting and decided on a plan of action. The Bag Party aimed to merge student
views of an acceptable bag with Senior Leadership guidelines. Our first meeting
was a huge success, everyone was very positive and factors such as cost, likeability
and formality were all top of the list. We decided on a set of guidelines, these
included the colour of the bag: BLACK, DARK BROWN or NAVY BLUE, the bag
must be waterproof, fit an A4 folder, free from buckles, chains, tassels and
inappropriate logos. They also should be carried over the shoulder, not on an arm
like a fashion handbag.

Following this we were keen to find exemplar bags, which could be used as a
guideline for all students required to buy a new bag. The photographs of these
shoulder bags are now being shown to students to ensure everyone is aware.
Rucksacks are still regarded as the most acceptable bag, whilst cross-body ‘gola’
remain appropriate.

We hope you find these guidelines and example pictures useful.
