Winners of the Year 8 Science Fair 2024

This week we have announced all the winners for this year’s science fair. A huge well done to everyone involved – these are some of the best projects we have ever seen!

The following awards were given by the Science Department and form the team representing IGS at our Trustwide Science Fair next week:

Best in Form:

8I: Lora and Rebecca - What would happen if you lost all 5 senses?

8N: Florence - What techniques do Police use to investigate crimes?

8V: Darlene - What is Capgras syndrome and what are the most effective methods of treating it?

8C: Fikay and Keira - Which is the more sustainable and efficient power source for a car: Solar, battery or water powered?

8T: Lexie - Does music affect the growth of plants?

8A: Jasmine - Could we live on Mars?

8G: Lucie and Lily - What makes certain mushrooms poisonous?

8S: Taliah - How does autism affect people in social situations?

Best Research Project: Betsy, 8C - How is AI used in space rovers and how can this technology be used in self driving cars?

Best Experiment: Scarlett, 8G - How reliable is your memory?

Best Innovation: Lakesha, 8I - Different methods to help support children with Autism

Best in Fair 2024: Ameesha, 8C - Can we tackle Beach Plastic pollution with our new solar powered gadget?

 

The special awards were given by various departments across the school and representatives of some of the different houses:

 

The Computer Science Award for Innovative Thinking – Betsy, 8C. Project: How is AI used in space rovers and how can this technology be used in self-driving cars?

The DT Award for an Innovative Product – Hermione, 8S. Project: How can we create medicine and remedies from Bees?

The Art Commendation Award – Lucie and Lily, 8G. Project: What makes certain mushrooms poisonous?

The Maths Award for the Accurate Use of Maths – Scarlett, 8G. Project: How reliable is your memory?

The PE Award for Sports and Maximum Sporting Ability – Shadae, 8C. Projet: How can the heart go wrong?

The History Award for a Project that changed the course of history – Izzy, 8C. Project: What is shell shock? What is PTSD?

The Geography Award for the Most Sustainable Project – Ameesha, 8V. Project – Can we tackle beach plastic pollution with our new solar powered gadget?

The Drama Award for the Best Communication of an Idea – Grace and Rose, 8G. Project: What factors affect Lucid Dreaming?

The Food Tech Award – Jemima and Jessica, 8T. Project – Does sound affect the taste of food?

The English Award for Literacy and Oracy - Grace and Rose, 8G. Project: What factors affect Lucid Dreaming?

The RS Award for the Most Caring to our Planet - Ameesha, 8V. Project – Can we tackle beach plastic pollution with our new solar powered gadget?

The Psychology Award – Taliah, 8S. Project – How does autism affect people in social situations.

The Physics Award – Ada, 8C. Project – Do hydraulics work in space?

 

The Pastoral Award – Veronika and Skye, 8T. Project: What is mental health and how does it affect you?

The Wellbeing Award for a project that promotes the wellbeing of others – Olachi, 8G. Project – Why do most young people believe everything that they hear on TikTok?

 

Colvin House Award for a project dealing with Equal Opportunities and Human Rights – Moyosoreoluwa, 8A. Project – Can people tell the difference between natural and artificial scents.

The Curie House Award for the project that seeks to learn more – Ada, 8C. Project: Do hydraulics work in space?

The Bronte House award for perseverance and overcoming hardships – Farhina, 8V. Project – Which ingredients make the best allergy friendly cookie?

The Nightingale House Award for a medical based project – Keira, 8S. Can Snow vision be Cured?

The Pankhurst House Award for promoting a future for everyone - Ameesha, 8V. Project – Can we tackle beach plastic pollution with our new solar powered gadget?
